RITUAL Mountain Bike Film Tour is teaming up with Gunnison Crested Butte to give one lucky rider an epic trip for (2) to one of the birthplaces of mountain biking—Colorado’s Gunnison Valley.
Crested Butte is widely recognized as the founding epicenter of mountain biking, as RITUAL audiences will experience via the “Born From Junk” (Part 1, Special Long Cut) film. Beginning in the 1970s Crested Butte residents tinkered with bikes rescued from the Denver dump, modifying a mix of road bikes, motorcycle parts, junkers, and the occasional bit of flair. They called these creations Crested Butte Klunkers. They didn’t have lofty goals for these klunkers, they were just hoping for something that could handle the potholed main street and a bit of fun on the old mining roads. But things changed in 1976 when their thirst for beer and adventure took them over the gnarly wagon roads of Pearl Pass to the neighboring town of Aspen, and mountain biking was born.
